Contemporary Art Glass On View Nationwide
Maybe it’s the crisp weather, or the colors of the changing trees – but there’s something about autumn that makes me want to get out and see art. Happily, one doesn’t need to look far to fulfill that urge; the fall pretty much always comes with an explosion of new exhibitions.
Most recently, I was interested to see this post from Urban Glass, which notes several opportunities to see a wide range of contemporary art glass works across the country. A few good ones have come and gone already (including a new solo show by the remarkable Christina Bothwell at Heller Gallery), but most are still open or forthcoming. If you’re in New York, definitely plan to check out the latest from Judith Schaechter, who is showing new stained glass lightboxes as well as debuting ten new 3D sculptural figures made from hand-carved kilnformed glass at the Claire Oliver Gallery in Chelsea (through October 25). I’m also a big fan of Carmen Vetter, whose work will be shown at the CIRCA Gallery in Minneapolis, opening October 4 (through November 15); and of course, the Bullseye Gallery in Portland always has something worth checking out. Currently, it’s a show titled “Of Earth and Sky,” featuring an intriguing combination of sculpture by Charissa Brock and wall panels by Martha Pfanschmidt (through November 1).
