Elevator Corridor Art Glass for ARIAD Pharmaceuticals
I’m pleased to share this recently completed elevator corridor art glass installation for ARIAD Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
This sawtooth fused glass work was commissioned for ARIAD’s brand new complex at 75-125 Binney Street in Cambridge, designed by Payette Associates. The complex occupies a full city block in Kendall Square; includes two buildings with approximately 380,000 GSF of flexible laboratory and office space; and features a sun-lit atrium that will be a public space, complete with a café and dramatic landscape design. Sweeping glass windows and interior glass walls allow ample light to pour through the complex.
My art glass installation can be found in the main level elevator corridor, adjacent to the atrium and visible through glass windows from the street. The design for this piece was inspired by DNA maps, a recurring theme in my work over the past few years, as evidenced by installations for hubs such as the Frick Chemistry Lab at Princeton University (another great collaboration with Payette) and Boston’s Longwood Center (with architect Elkus Manfredi). However, for this project, I pursued a slightly more limited and contrasting color palette, complementing the building’s warm interior with cooler tones.
